We met at a wedding in Boca Raton, and the following week Carmen contacted me because she wanted to do her maternity photo session at Riverbend Park in Jupiter. Actually, she didn’t have that idea in mind at first. When we spoke on the phone, I asked if she preferred the beach or the park, and she chose the park. So I told her that in Jupiter we have this beautiful park, where large trees with Spanish moss hanging down make for an unrivaled photo background.
When we met at the park, her family was beaming with smiles. She already had a quite advanced pregnancy belly. Her son was quite shy at first, but he gradually came out of his shell and gained confidence. That’s why we did both family portraits and a maternity photo session at Riverbend Park: it was important to give the soon-to-be big brother his moment. Why Riverbend Park is lovely for a maternity photo session
Riverbend Park is a large Palm Beach County park in Jupiter, along the Loxahatchee River, just off Indiantown Road. Together with the Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park, it protects the site of the last battles of the Second Seminole War. In fact, people have lived along this river for more than 5,000 years.
Today, the park has trails, wooden footbridges, kayak routes and huge oak trees covered in Spanish moss. At its heart stands the “Tree of Tears”, a 300-year-old oak on top of a burial mound. Legend says it may have sheltered wounded Seminoles after the Battle of the Loxahatchee. Because of all the shade, the park is also a great alternative to the beach on hot or sunny days.

Tips for your maternity photo session at Riverbend Park
- Include the big brother or sister. Giving them their own moment in the photos makes the session special for the whole family.
- Wear light, soft colors. For example, light blue, white and cream stand out beautifully against the greens of the park.
- Choose comfortable shoes. We walk along shaded trails, so flats or sandals are best for the mom-to-be.
- Bring water and bug spray. The park is next to the river, and Florida mornings can be warm.
