Family Photoshoot at Riverbend Park | Laura’s Family

The 2023 holiday season was approaching when Laura contacted me for their family photoshoot at Riverbend Park in Jupiter. Laura, her husband, their daughter and her mother-in-law posed with big smiles in front of the camera.

The day was very cloudy. In fact, practically the entire autumn and winter had been like that. Nevertheless, the family enjoyed themselves immensely with their daughter, who gave us smiles and joy with every shot.

As we were about to finish, I took them to the centuries-old oak tree known as the “Tree of Tears”, because I always like to end there. I understand why it’s called that, and I know it represents a sad moment. However, I find it to be a beautiful and iconic place. That’s why I always tell the families who trust me with these sessions that every time they visit the park, they should take another photo in front of that majestic tree.

Why Riverbend Park is perfect for a family photoshoot

Riverbend Park is a large Palm Beach County park in Jupiter, along the Loxahatchee River, just off Indiantown Road. Together with the Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park, it protects the site of the last battles of the Second Seminole War. In fact, people have lived along this river for more than 5,000 years.

Today, the park has trails, wooden footbridges, kayak routes and huge oak trees covered in Spanish moss. At its heart stands the “Tree of Tears”, a 300-year-old oak on top of a burial mound. Legend says it may have sheltered wounded Seminoles after the Battle of the Loxahatchee. Because of all the shade, the park is also a great alternative to the beach on hot or sunny days.

Tips for your family photoshoot at Riverbend Park

• Wear rich, warm colors. For example, greens, burgundy and navy look beautiful against the oaks and Spanish moss.
• Bring bug spray. The park is next to the river, so mosquitoes can show up, especially in summer.
• Choose comfortable shoes. We walk along trails and footbridges, so sneakers or flats are best for the walk.
• Don’t worry about clouds. Overcast days give soft, even light under the trees.
