Cyrus and Amanda came all the way from Massachusetts to celebrate one of the most exciting chapters of their lives: they’re expecting their first baby. Before heading back north, they wanted to capture this moment by the ocean, so we met at Lake Worth Pier for a sunrise maternity photoshoot.

Sunrise is one of my favorite times to photograph, and this morning showed exactly why. As the sky started to glow, the light was incredibly soft and warm, perfect for maternity portraits. We walked around the pier with the sea behind us, and then moved under the pier, where the long rows of pilings create depth, shadows and frames that make every photo feel different. But what I’ll remember most is how much fun we had. Cyrus and Amanda were relaxed, playful and completely in love, and that comes through in every image. Sunrise beach maternity photos have a calm, almost magical quality, and they couldn’t have been a better fit for these two. Why Lake Worth Pier is ideal for a sunrise maternity photoshoot

Lake Worth Pier, officially the William O. Lockhart Municipal Pier, stretches about 960 feet into the Atlantic from Lake Worth Beach. Since the beach faces east, the sun rises right over the ocean, so the first light of the day falls softly on you as you walk along the sand.

What makes it special for maternity photos is what happens under the pier. The long rows of concrete pilings create natural frames, leading lines and soft shade, so in a single session you get open beach portraits and more intimate, architectural images.

Tips for your maternity photoshoot at Lake Worth Pier

  • Book around the seventh month. The belly is beautifully round, and you’re still comfortable walking on the sand.
  • Choose sunrise. The light is soft and warm, and the beach is still quiet before swimmers and fishermen arrive.
  • Wear a flowing dress. A long dress moves with the ocean breeze and shows the shape of your belly.
  • Visiting Florida? A maternity session is a beautiful way to remember your trip. Just plan it early in your stay, in case the weather makes us reschedule.
