Newborn portraits in Singer Island with baby Khloe, at home.

A few days ago, I had the pleasure of doing these newborn portraits in Singer Island. Kimberly had finally arrived home with her precious baby, and she and her husband welcomed me. I believe the best place for babies in their first days is their own home. So I arrived there with my camera and my bag of blankets and baskets.

The morning was calm, sunny and pleasantly warm. As soon as her husband opened the door, the cat, Mango, came to greet me. As a result, what was going to be a session with a baby and her parents quickly turned into a shoot of four. In other words, we had to offer a pacifier to one and bribe the other with treats.

First, I rearranged their whole house, looking for the best possible light. We moved the dining table in front of a brick wall and started with the baskets and blankets. Khloe was super easy to photograph. In fact, she was asleep from the very beginning, so we could try everything we wanted. What a sweet baby! Gradually, we added the rest of the family to the photos. In fact, this is how I approach all my newborn photography in Jupiter: at home, calm and unhurried.

About at-home newborn portraits in Singer Island

Singer Island sits on a barrier island in Riviera Beach, between the Lake Worth Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean, just south of Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens. However, for newborn sessions the location that matters most is your own home.

In fact, I always photograph newborns at home. First of all, the baby stays in a familiar, warm place, and you don’t have to pack anything or drive anywhere in those first tiring days. Moreover, I bring two baskets and two blankets, washed with Tide Free & Gentle. Then I look for the best window light in the house, even if that means moving a table, just like we did here.

Tips for newborn portraits at home

  • Call me once the baby is born. We don’t need to fix a date during pregnancy; we find one together after the birth.
  • Keep the house warm. Newborns sleep better when the room is cozy, and sleepy babies are much easier to pose.
  • Feed the baby just before I arrive. As a result, they usually sleep through most of the session.
  • Include your pets if you like. As Mango shows, they can make the photos even more special.
