At the beginning of April 2024, I photographed this family photo session at Dubois Park. In fact, Laura and her family came for a few days of vacation and wanted to create memories in this beautiful town in South Florida.
Here in Jupiter, for example, we have a beautiful park on the banks of the Loxahatchee River that is very popular. With the iconic Jupiter Lighthouse on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, that’s why this park welcomes many visitors every day. In the middle of the park, almost unnoticed on a mound, is the Pioneer House, a beautiful old wooden house where we began our shoot.
On the day, Laura arrived with her partner, daughter and son. I loved that the first thing her daughter did was give me instructions: “Hello, you’re the photographer and you’re going to do this, this, and this…” Clearly, that promised something interesting! First of all, we posed seated so that the children could get comfortable with me and the camera. After that, her daughter did her best to cooperate, while the boy did his own thing. At first he was very serious, but then we found the trick to make him laugh.
Finally, we headed to the little beach near the river mouth, where the low tide had left a large expanse of sand. Soon, the kids got tired of posing, started playing and, oh my, they made a mess in the water. Overall, I felt very comfortable with them during this family photo session at Dubois Park. Laura, I wish you all the best and hope you come to Jupiter often.
Why Dubois Park is perfect for a family photo session
Dubois Park sits where the Loxahatchee River meets the Atlantic, right at the Jupiter Inlet, with the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse across the water. Its shallow lagoon and small sandy beach are very popular with families, because the water is calm and kids love to play there.
In addition, on top of a small hill, almost unnoticed, stands the DuBois Pioneer Home, a wooden house built in the late 1890s. Its porch and shingled walls make a beautiful, timeless backdrop. As a result, in one session we can photograph a historic house, the lighthouse and the beach.

Tips for your family photo session at Dubois Park
- Check the tide. At low tide, the lagoon leaves a wide stretch of sand, which is perfect for the kids to play.
- Pack a change of clothes. Besides, kids almost always end up in the water, so it’s best to leave the beach for last.
- Wear light colors. For example, white, light blue and coral look beautiful against the wooden house and the water.
- Visiting on vacation? Dubois Park is close to many rentals in Jupiter, and photos are usually ready the same day or the next day.
