Juno Beach Pier Family Photo Session | Cindy’s Family

Late last year, Cindy wrote to me, and from that initial contact, this Juno Beach Pier family photo session was born. When we spoke on the phone, she mentioned that she would have her whole family in Florida and wanted to do a family photoshoot. As I usually do, I told her that the best time to take photos on the beach is at dawn. I know it’s challenging. However, if she was looking for a professional photographer in Jupiter, she was looking for the best results, and to achieve that, we had to get up early.

When we met, Cindy was accompanied by her family: her husband, her son and daughter, her son-in-law and daughter-in-law, and the four grandchildren. We took photos with all possible combinations, from the whole family together to individual portraits. The day was sunny, somewhat windy, and the sea was very rough. In fact, the waves were crashing onto the shore so strongly that they were eroding the coast, creating streams in the sand and reflective surfaces. It was a delight to work in such conditions. With each wave, everything changed, erasing the footprints and making it look like a pristine beach each time.

Her family was charming. At first, one of the little ones was quite wary of the sea. Gradually, though, she got used to it and ended up running back and forth, delighted by the splashes of water.

Why Juno Beach Pier is perfect for a family photo session

Juno Beach Pier is a 990-foot fishing pier on Ocean Drive in Juno Beach, just south of Jupiter. In fact, it’s one of the longest piers on Florida’s Atlantic coast. Because the beach faces east, the sun rises right over the ocean. As a result, it’s one of the best spots in the area for sunrise photos.

However, the beach gets busy later in the day. By mid-morning, walkers, surfers and fishermen fill the sand, especially on weekends and during the winter season. For that reason, a weekday sunrise is the best choice if you’d like a calmer beach.

Tips for your Juno Beach Pier family photo session

• Arrive 10–15 minutes early. The best light actually starts before the sun appears on the horizon.
• Plan the groups. With big families, we start with everyone together while the light is softest. Then we move on to each family, the couples and the grandkids.
• Coordinate colors. For example, whites, beiges and soft blues look beautiful together and glow in the sunrise light.
• Don’t worry about the waves. Rough mornings create reflections on the sand, so they often give the most unique photos.
