During the peak holiday season, Katelyn reached out to me to schedule their first family photo session on Jupiter Beach. When we spoke on the phone, she mentioned that they had just arrived in Jupiter and wanted to start putting down roots and creating memories in this beautiful town in South Florida. With that in mind, I suggested doing the session on the beach, near Juno Beach Pier.
The day was cloudy, windy and chilly, and a strong surf was pushing the waves onto the sand. In fact, the autumn days and the beginning of winter in 2023 were all like this. Katelyn, her husband and their two children arrived at dawn, and the first thing we did was joke that if it was chilly in Jupiter, we didn’t even want to think about Massachusetts. If you’re thinking about family photos in Jupiter, sessions like this one are exactly what I love to do.
If there’s one thing to highlight from this photo shoot, besides how much fun the whole family had, it’s the light. It was different from every other day, because the sun on the horizon was casting its rays onto a cloud above the peninsula, creating some very unique pink colors. It was a pleasure to help them create memories with this family photo session on Jupiter Beach. Welcome to “this planet”. Why Jupiter Beach is perfect for a family photo session
Jupiter has miles of beautiful beaches along A1A, from Jupiter Beach Park by the inlet down to Juno Beach Pier. Because the coastline faces east, the sun rises right over the Atlantic. As a result, sunrise is the best time for beach photos here: the light is soft and warm, and the sand is still quiet.
For this session, we chose the stretch of beach near Juno Beach Pier. In fact, it’s one of my favorite spots, because the pier adds depth to the photos and the beach is wide even at high tide. However, every access point has its own character, so we always choose the spot together.

Tips for your family photo session on Jupiter Beach
- Arrive 10–15 minutes early. The best light actually starts before the sun appears on the horizon.
- Bring a layer for the kids. Winter mornings can be chilly and windy, so a sweater between shots keeps little ones happy.
- Let the kids play. Some of the best photos happen when they run and splash in the water, not when they pose.
- Coordinate colors. For example, creams, beiges and soft blues look natural on the beach.
