That sunrise was spectacular, an unbeatable day for this Juno Beach Pier senior portraits session. It was one of those windless mornings, the ocean smooth as glass, with clouds in the background softening the lights, making them gentler, some small waves, and this lovely protagonist of today.
Minutes before the sun rose, Jaida and her mother arrived at our meeting point to have their Juno Beach Pier senior portraits session. As I always do, I tried to get close to her, so she would feel comfortable with me, but most importantly with the camera. I asked her about what she wanted to be in the future, and she said she loved psychology. Fantastic. Fantastic because photography has more to do with psychology than with camera technique. It’s about understanding the other person, and being able to anticipate, rather than just pressing the shutter button. It’s about winning over the person in front of you, making them feel comfortable and able to express themselves. I think she loved that perspective, associating psychology with photography.
We walked around the beach, first to the north, then to the south, so that this Juno Beach Pier senior portraits session could capture all the perspectives that this beautiful location offers us every day. Jaida appeared in front of the camera more and more comfortable, and it was a pleasure to work with her.
